I first came across this guys work on the brownswood site with some really special mixes and edits. He made my best of 2009 list with his Diana Ross edit. At the time, although I loved it (and still do), I thought it was a touch too short at 3 minutes something. So without wanted to offend anyone too much, I've looped up my favourite parts a bit and you can hear the result below.
Finally available to get on vinyl, you get not only the wonderful Diana track but also a beautiful take on William DeVaughn's Be Thankful and on the b-side : Gene Harris' As and Joaoa Donato. Grab a copy on the Etch website now or when it hits other sites and shops in the next couple of weeks.
Just a quick heads up if you are not already following J Rocc of Stones Throw on soundcloud, you should be. http://soundcloud.com/jrocc On Friday night he put up an unreleased Madlib remix, last night two versions of James Brown mixes he has done and now this morning I have just seen another Dil Jackson track (remember that good Butterflies remix last year?). However you have to be quick, the Madlib track was only up for 10 minutes and the James Brown is only a preview of a full mix coming soon so he will probably take that down soon too.
I started messing around with a few FX in ableton a quite a few weeks ago and found it made some strange, interesting little variations and on a couple of tracks worked quite well. I think I overdid it a bit on all of these and there are some very mixed results - a couple of them came out a lot better than others I think. I wasn't really planning on putting them up, they really just started off as tests for me to see what was possible with a bit of messing around. Then a couple of weeks ago Benjamin Semtek asked if I had done anything recently after using his "Bells" accapella in a track last year in another early experiement so that motivated me to attempt a couple more tracks. Anyway, as ever, feedback / advice is always appreciated.
